Glenn Dale

Located just off Route 193 and north of Route 450 lies one of Glenn Dale’s most popular attractions, the Marietta Mansion. This mansion was once a plantation owned by Gabriel Duvall, who undertook the task of building the modest Federal-style brick house. Duvall was appointed an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court in 1811, a position he retained for more than 20 years. Though the original property spanned more than 650 acres, many of the outbuildings have been torn down. Only the judge’s law office and root cellar remain in addition to the mansion itself. The mansion grounds now cover 25 acres of lawn and wooded terrain and are owned by the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

For those who have grown weary of the incessant buzz of the big city lifestyle, Glenn Dale is an excellent place to relocate. Because of its proximity to our nation’s capital, Glenn Dale provides residents with a place where they can relax and withdraw from the chaos and noise of urban life. Just beyond the gates of seclusion, however, lie some of the world’s most famous tourist attractions including the White House and Capitol Hill. Employment opportunities are virtually limitless for Glenn Dale residents, as job security can be easily found within the neighboring city of Washington, D.C. Other benefits of living close to this world-class metropolis include access to a variety of renowned educational institutions, a number of recreational amenities and a wide spectrum of cultural events.
